Worth of fixing up an old Honda c50 Cub?

I am planning on buying an old beat up (not running) Honda c50 for under 200$, I'm not entirely sure of the year but from the looks of it it is very old. I've always wanted a project car but could not afford the money, or the time for that kind of project, but I think fixing up a scooter would be perfect, and I really would like to have a good gas mileage vehicle for cheap out of it too.

honestly it would be so much cheaper for a 2000-ish honda 70 3 speed (maybe 600 dollers?). I have one and i get up to 52mph no mods. You think a project scooter/bike will be cheap&fun, but only the fun part is true. but it aint fun when you run outta money.

Kids Motorized Scooters are one of the most popular gifts on the market today. Just a few years a go, your son or daughter might have been happy with a kick scooter, but now they want something with a little more oomph. Kids Motorized Scooters are great for delivering that whether you go with a kids gas powered scooter or a kids electric scooter. However, deciding between whether to get a gas or electric scooter can be a little more challenging. Here, are a few questions you should consider in helping figure out this issue:

Generally, the cost of kids gas powered scooters or kids electric scooters are about the same. You can expect to pay on average around $300 to $600. However, the disparity in price between the two is usually determined based on the yearly energy source costs between fill-up gas costs and the electricity costs. With rising gas prices, the kids gas powered scooters tend to cost slightly more in this department.

4. Do I want to teach some responsibility with this gift?

Kids motorized scooters can be a great tool at helping teach your kids about handling greater responsibilities. Generally speaking, kids electric scooters are probably better at teaching responsibility than kids gas powered scooters because of their need to be recharged on a more frequent basis. However, if you are having the kid fill up his own gas scooter, this may turn out to be a wash in the end.

Many gas scooter owners think the best thing they can do for their scooter is to start it up every few days during the winter. This is actually a bad idea rather than a good one. Why?

Starting our scooters in the winter causes more problems than it solves if it is not allowed to warm up enough to dry out ALL the moisture throughout the system. That water (aka condensation) is not good for the inside of our engines and exhaust systems. Want a visual reminder? Notice the exhaust pipes on our cars while they are warming up in the winter and you'll get an idea of all that moisture inside of gas motor systems. It is better to not run the scooter in the winter months but simply wait till spring. This will help you stop from having to replace tons of gas scooter parts each spring.

A second Winterization trick is to simply put a battery tender on it and leave it alone until/unless we can take it out for a several mile drive. Once we bring it out in the spring, plan a 5-10 mile drive that will dry out all the moisture that may have gathered during the winter. Batteries are the #1 gas scooter part that many of us have to replace 1-2 times a year. This step will save us from that expense.

The third step is to take the scooter in-doors if possible. These Chinese / Korean / Taiwan scooters don’t like the cold USA winters. If you don’t have the ability to store it indoors, buy a scooter cover for it and tie the cover down. This simple step will save 5-20 degrees off the frigid cold, especially on our electrical components, like the CDI and Stator. Replacing these gas scooter parts can be expensive, so covering our scooters or taking them indoors will keep our expenses to a minimum.

These simple steps will assist us in having scooters that start next spring, rather than waking up to multiple scooter problems.

Gas scooters were around for about 20 years. The first company to actually build the first working gas scooter was Go-Ped. This company knows about quality and performance. Scooter owners will find their scooters indispensable, as they know the advantages of mobility that they enjoy. Hence, they also know the dire consequences of a scooter breakdown or damage and the need to repair it at the earliest. Weak lights may mean that the magneto of your scooter needs to be worked upon. Again some attention may need to be paid to the tank too. Repairing that tank is essential, as gasoline that has settled in the tank may lead to grime, odor or corrosion. Depending on the condition of the gas tank it may need a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat or may be treated with acid. The fuel valve may also be replaced in this process. Besides, while repairing scooters you may also have to pay heed to the cable and the cylinder.

With green energy, environmental protection and zero emissions such popular issues regarding transportation of late, even personal transporters like scooters are drawn into the debate when it comes to whether it's better to ride an electric scooter than one with a gasoline burning engine. With gasoline prices being so expensive it is no wonder that so many commuters are thinking about parking their gas guzzling SUV in the garage and zipping across town on something more economical to run, such as a moped or motor scooter. Even if your gas powered bike gets 100 mpg, with gas priced at only two dollars per gallon, that still costs four times as much to travel the same distance.

But what if you run out of "juice"? Lots of towns have gas stations within a few mile radius, but how many places are there re-charging stations for electric vehicles? Not very many. Until the time comes when there are enough electric powered scooters, bikes and cars on the road so that places to re-charge the batteries become more common, riders of these plug-in vehicles are going to have to keep a close eye on how far away from home they are, and how soon their batteries are going to need to be plugged back in.

Another consideration is power. If you are only going to be tooling around your neighborhood and not out on the highway or riding up and down steep hills, your engine or motor power may not be all that meaningful. But bear in mind that even the fastest electric scooter is only capable of speeds in the ballpark of 20 to 25 miles per hour, while even tiny, 49cc street legal stand-up scooters like the Razor boast a top speed of 30 to 35 mph.

The decision about whether a gas or electric scooter is best for you boils down to a lot of personal factors that can best be answered by the consumer going out and giving both options a test ride or two. By thinking about how, why and when you are going to be using your scooter you can then have a clearer picture about which power source is best for your transportation needs.

How do I get the pull start on my 49cc gas scooter to work properly?

I recently purchased a 49cc scooter on ebay with only a pull start, no electric start. When I first tried to start the scooter, the pull start broke and the cup peice that fit inside of it. I recently got replacement parts for it and now the pull start wont rewind into itself when on the scooter. There is nothing wrong with the parts it's just the pull start won't wind up after being pulled out. If I loosen the bolts and pull this starter out, then the cord will wind up again. The engine can also start when I pull, and if I pull the starter out a little it will wind back in. Shortly after something will start clicking and then the engine will stall. It is the rectangular starter pawl and the first pull start I am dealing with. A little complex, but if anyone can help, thank you.

You need to stick a couple small washers under the screws and the cage - it has to be shimmed like a starter.

Right now it is way to close and it is binding up on you -
It is a trial and error - try 1 washer all around every screw - then 2 then 3

You should get it with 1-2 but you never know.
